MAJLES

Majlis, an Arabic term meaning "a place of sitting," is a traditional gathering space widely found in Arab culture. Majlis interior design aims to create an inviting and hospitable environment where people can come together for socializing, discussions, and entertainment. It reflects the rich cultural heritage and values of Arabian hospitality.

When designing a majlis, there are several key considerations to ensure a harmonious and functional space. The layout plays a crucial role, with an emphasis on creating different seating arrangements that foster conversation and interaction. Majlis often includes a central seating area with comfortable sofas, chairs, or cushions arranged in a circle or U-shape, encouraging face-to-face communication among guests.

Colors and materials are carefully chosen to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

Lighting is another important aspect of majlis interior design. Soft, warm lighting creates a cozy ambiance and contributes to the overall comfort. A combination of natural light, through large windows or skylights, and well-placed artificial lighting fixtures, such as chandeliers, wall sconces, or table lamps, is used to create a balanced and inviting atmosphere.

Furnishings in a majlis are typically elegant and comfortable. Luxurious fabrics like silk, velvet, or brocade are used for upholstery, cushions, and curtains, enhancing the sense of opulence. Low coffee tables, adorned with decorative trays, are commonly placed in the center, along with other traditional furniture pieces like handcrafted cabinets, consoles, and screens.

Lastly, the overall design should reflect the specific purpose and cultural context of the majlis. Whether it is a private family gathering space or a public setting, the interior design should align with the values and preferences of the individuals or community it serves.

Majlis interior design requires a competent and professional approach, taking into account cultural sensitivities and design principles. Designers specializing in majlis spaces should have a deep understanding of Arabian culture, traditions, and the art of hospitality.
Adhering to industry standards and best practices is essential to ensure a successful design. Attention should be given to ergonomics, comfort, and functionality to create a space that accommodates the needs of guests. Incorporating ample seating options, convenient storage solutions, and proper circulation paths are crucial to enhance the usability of the majlis.

Working closely with clients and understanding their requirements is vital for a successful majlis design. Designers should have open and collaborative communication, actively involving clients in the decision-making process to ensure that the final design reflects their vision and meets their expectations.
